Artist Monet, Oscar-Claude Alice’s third daughter Suzanne inspired3„4Monet3„4to paint two versions of this picture. Suzanne was 18 at the time and possibly reminded him of Camille, whom he had painted in a similar pose several years before. He painted her against the light, barely sketching her features, bit capturing instead the play of light and shade created by the sunshade.
